The Light of a New Day
The War Of Ash
The War of Ash is the most common name for the civil war that raged in Zakhara for over a decade. The war started when the Vultures, a group formerly comprised of loosely-organized bandits, launched an arrow said ‘to strip away even the most potent enchantments and illusions’ at the acting Caliph during a parade being magically broadcast over the entirety of Zakhara. A hideous monstrosity was briefly shown where the Caliph was struck. The Vultures times several guerrilla strikes at the same time, hitting key military and magical facilities controlled by the Caliph, and thus the War of Ash started. The ten years that followed would be more brutal and merciless than the harshest desert in Zakhara.
The Loyalists, as they came to be known, said the arrow was itself a magical illusion, and the Vultures were attempting to usurp the throne of a good and rightful man so they could place their own agent in a ruling position. The Purists (those loyal to the Vultures), named such by their desire to cleanse Zakhara of the rot and lies coming from the capitol, maintained they had the true blood of the Caliph in the form of his daughter, and demanded that they merely showed the filth that was underneath a conspiracy of deception the likes of which had never been seen before.
The Purists won, but with the death of the Calipha a mere 3 months into her rule, peace and stability seem more tenuous than an aching country would like.
